Missoni started in a basement in northern Italy in 1953. Tap a year to see how the family got here.
1953
A workshop in the basement
Ottavio and Rosita marry and set up a small knitwear workshop in the basement of their house in Gallarate, near Milan. Rosita's family ran a shawl-making business.
1962
The zigzag appears
The Missonis adapt Raschel machines, used until then for shawls, to knit colourful zigzag stripes. The pattern is called fiammata, Italian for "flames". It becomes the house signature.
1980s
Missoni moves into the home
The brand launches Missoni Home: furniture, rugs and fabrics in the same colours and patterns. Missoni Home fabrics are part of the finish in Waterfront by Missoni apartments.
2026
First Missoni address in Abu Dhabi
Missoni and Emirates Developments launch Waterfront by Missoni on Al Reem Island. Missoni leads the design of all 250 apartments and every shared space.
